One gets better at writing by writing. Not by thinking about writing. Not by saying one day, when I have time, I’ll resume writing. Not by reading about the writers I admire.
I have been working in the past year as a technical editor/ writer. This doesn’t count as writing but it pays the bills. I finished writing my thesis too. Again this doesn’t count. My creative output in the last few months: four short blog entries and rewrites of old entries.
I decided to pay for this site to get me to write or to get me to edit pieces that I think are good enough. By shelling out money, I am now forced to devote time to doing what I know I should be doing.
So back to writing. Back to being honest, grappling for the right words, struggling with ideas, sharing the things I know or don’t know. Back to writing, wondering, questioning, discovering, and being happy about one of the things that I love doing.
